Bohra the Kangaroo and Dinewan the Emu

In the dreamtime everything was dark because there was no light. Bohra the kangaroo took Dinewan the emu to be his wife and they were happy for quite a while. The emu became very restless because Bohra the kangaroo only wanted to lay around all the time and sleep. The emu is used to a lot of exercise, she longed to stretch her legs so she began to complain about his laziness and then about the dark. Dinewan would fiddle with the leaves on the ground and sometimes the leaves fell on Bohra the kangaroo's face and wake him up. Finally he said, "Come with me". They went off into the darkness, stumbling along, falling over logs and especially scratching the emu's legs till the feathers around her legs fell off. They came to a clearing where Bohra said to his wife Dinewan, "Wait here!" He began to roll back the night until daylight came through and his wife began to run about, which is why the emu is a fast and leggy bird and the kangaroo is a noble spirit.

Narrell Boys

Narrell is a vibrant and energetic aboriginal artist who is a descendant of the Wiradgerie Tribe and has been painting commercially for over 20 years. The road to becoming an Indigenous artist was inevitable for Narrell - her father was a gifted painter, her mother a wonderful storyteller and her grandfather was a great carver. Narrell has combined each of these traits in her art work and is very proud of her heritage and culture which she continues to pass on through her art and community work. “I actually grew up with the arts, it was something I don’t even remember learning, it was like breathing. You just did it.”
